The infamous peninsula! Many countries! Delicious cuisine! Warm sea, mountains and ancient cities! Visa-free travel! … and other flashy headlines to start this article. All that has been said is true. Well, almost – they lied a little about visas.

Where is?

The Balkan Peninsula is located in the southeast of Europe. The main countries located here are Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro and Macedonia. Croatia, Slovenia, Romania, Turkey and Italy are also partly referred to the Balkan countries – but about them some other time. Now we are telling you why to go to each of the countries of the peninsula and how to do it.

Albania

Capital: Tirana

Conditions of entry: from April 1 to October 31, Russians can enter Albania without a visa, there are no restrictions on entry due to COVID-19.

How to get there: via Istanbul.

What to see: The most unexplored country in the Balkans, which for a long time was closed from the rest of the world, and which is now blooming and reopening to travelers. This is the place in the Balkans, where the bunkers of the former dictator Enver Hozhdi and cozy authentic white houses in the seaside Berat coexist. See how the Adriatic and Ionian Seas meet in Vlora, take a boat ride through the mini-fjords of Lake Komani, and seek out strange Greco-Ottoman culture in Gjirokastra.
